After feeding and loving the street cats in Alanya, Turkey for more than one year, I have opened my home as a foster home for orphaned kittens and desperately ill and injured kittens/cats.

These kittens are either abandoned by Mothers that are far too young to deal with their young, have lost their Mothers in traffic accidents, poisoning by humans or disease and need lots of special care and attention if they are going to survive. I take them in up until they are 12 weeks of age at which time they are ready to find a new home.

Other cases include kittens that have been attacked by street dogs (Arthur, pictured, lost part of his tail after being rescued from the mouth of a dog), or kittens that have been hurt by children (such as Silver, who was thrown so hard to the ground by some children that she suffered nerve damage and lost the use of her back legs).

These kittens require food 4 times a day, plus fresh litter every day. They must be wormed and flea treated and also must have blood tests taken before being able to join the other cats in the house. As they can only be vaccinated at 8 weeks of age, disease spreads like wildfire, so they must be tested and quarantined for 10 days beforehand. Sick kittens require lots of veterinary care and specialised treatment, such as infusions, injections and hourly syringe feedings. I also require other equipment, such as scales for keeping track of their weight and thermometers to keep track of their temperature.

They also need simple things like clean beds and blankets, scratching posts and toys. It is also incredibly hot here in the summer so they require air conditioning to keep them cool.
