CAT Cafe is a volunteer led youth club for 16-25yr olds with Asperger’s Syndrome.

Asperger’s syndrome is a social disability which makes it difficult to develop friendships and relationships, this often results in young people being socially isolated in thier community and sadly have very negative experiences of the world.

44% of people on the autism spectrum responding to a survey by the National Autistic Society said they stay at home because they are afraid of being abused or harassed – almost half (49%) said they have been abused by someone they thought of as a friend (National Autistic Society)

75% of parents in an NAS survey said their children on the autism spectrum had been labelled “naughty” or “strange”. 72% said that people avoid them, 74% said people make disapproving noises, and 87% said people stare.(National Autistic Society)

We provide an accepting and understanding environment for these young people to meet others who share the same experiences and develop friendships.

We are taking part in a variety of fund raising events to raise money to put towards social activities, hopefully a residential and generally to keep the group going.
