Diesel is our olde tyme bulldog who was born in Jan16 he was the runt of the litter and so beautiful. When he was 4.5 months old, we took him to the vets as he was being sick not eating and generally not himself.he lost weight and was poorly. He was treat for stomach problems and he had a kidney scan which showed his kidney was slightly enlarged. He was drinking excessively and peeing lots, and had lost a lot of weight, after hard work we managed to help him gain weight and start looking healthy again.Diesel was still excessively drinking, peeing, refusing some meals and once or twice a month having dioreah and being sick.
We took him back to the vets who gave him meds to help the sickness, an antibiotic injection, anti sickness injection and told to monitor him, which we did closely. He picked up for a day or two, then went right down hill again.On Wednesday 2nd of November we took him back to the vets after him being sick, lethargic and very wobbly on his feet. He was very dehydrated and put on a fluid drip. Our vet could feel a mass in his stomach,and wanted to do an x-ray to determine what it was. it turned out to be a pocket of gas. he was still very poorly and spent 2 nights in the vets being monitored and blood tests done.
His bloods came back to show he had a problem with his liver, so a scan was given by a professional on Friday. We prayed it was an infection.The scan showed that diesel has a liver shunt, which totally devastated us, our family and friends.He is on a hepatic diet and meds but needs an operation if he is to get better. our own vets do not have the facility or surgeon to operate, so we have contacted another surgery, a 2 hour drive away who are a non profit organization, our vets have shared his medical records, but as it’s a specialist operation, the N/P practice would need to use a certified surgeon, estimated cost of £3000.
