Story
My Tiffany had to be taken to the vet yesterday as an emergency. Her back leg had been damaged exposing the bone and she had problems breathing. The vet thought she may have been hit by a car and needed to do scans and xrays on her as well as treat her leg. A quote of £600 was given for this. After a call from the vet at lunchtime and told her lungs kept filling up with liquid and needed draining due to damage to her thorax, we were given 3 choices for our lovely cat. 1) She would need emergency evening care at a cost of £300 per night + treatment. 2) She could go to a specialist to have a chest drain fitted which would cost thousands of pounds. 3) Take her home with a 50/50 chance of survival. After my son and I discussed this, the only option open to us was to take her home. The £600 is more than we have!
I am a foster carer for SARA (Saltburn Animal Rescue Association) and 9 of their 'unhomeable' cats live with me and their vet bills are taken care of by SARA. Tiffany was a feral 4 mth old kitten when I took her home for socialising and I adopted her 3 mth later. However, SARA have kindly offered to help with the vet bill for Tiffany as I was a volunteer with them for over 10 yrs helping to home cats into loving, caring homes. Their help is greatly appreciated.
Tiffany is back at the vet again this morning for more xrays & scans and to treat her leg. The injury left her with no flesh which could be stitched so regular visits are now necessary along with painkillers and antibiotics. The bill will therefore increase. I have a small job caring for cats in their own homes whilst their owners are on holiday. But my charges are not high and therefore neither is the income, which only just subsidises my pension. My son has offered to sell his car but he is unemployed and his prospects would be even worse than now without a vehicle.
I can only appeal to animal lovers who have the means to help just a little if possible.

8 years agoI would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has donated to the vet bill for my Tiffany. The total bill was £937.65 of which SARA Saltburn Animal Rescue donated £300 for which I am extremely grateful. The remaining balance of £637.65 came from kind and thoughtful people via this page along with friends and family who donated & supported me throughout this traumatic time. I wish to say a special thank you to my dear friends Lynn & Barry Watson without whom this final bill could not have been paid. Forever indebted. With love xx

8 years agoHi everyone. Tiffany has been to vet this morning and had dressing changed on leg. Due to damaged tendon she is carrying it inwards but the wound is slowly healing! The dressings are bumping the bill up which now stands at £937.65!! I have been asked if I can pay half of this amount this week & with kind donations already given I only have to find £70 to put to it. The rest I will have to worry about later! I will update this page as and when I have any news. Many thanks to all the lovely people who have donated so far. I am very gratefulx

8 years agoUpdate on latest vet visit. Tiffany's leg is slowly improving, but when dressing was changed today it looked quite awful, with the bone still visible at this stage. Her chest is improving too! It is possible vet visits will go on for another 3 weeks and presently the vet bill is approaching £1000! Any further donations would be most gratefully welcome. Thank you once again for donations received to date, you have our sincere appreciation for your kindness. xxx

8 years agoHi Everyone. Another kind donation from Karen Oakley who ordered a bespoke cake from The Nutty Tart Bakery (my Daughter Paula) & when paying for the cake she gave an extra £20 for Tiffany. We are very grateful to you! Also Paula & Gary who donated the fee for this cake £80 to Tiffany's ongoing vet treatment. Today Tiffany is a bit subdued and slightly off her food but she is back to vet tomorrow for another check up of her lungs & leg. To all who have donated so far, you have our gratitude and thanks. xx
