    Story

Organisations such as Camps International have helped hundreds and thousands of people every year, aiming to improve the quality of life and give equal opportunities to everyone around the world. Therefore; throughout the Summer of 2018, I will be travelling over 7000 miles on a school expedition to Kenya in Africa for 4 weeks. During this time, I will be contributing towards the construction of schools, fresh water tanks and ensuring that those living in and below poverty can have the opportunity to live a better life as well as helping towards the conservation of animals.

Currently, half of the Kenyan population (22 million individuals) live below the poverty line and unlike the majority of us living in the UK, they are on average, 'living' on $1 USD per day; this is the equivalent of £0.60p in England. In addition to this, millions of people living in Kenya currently do not have access to clean, safe drinking water. Without facilities such as safe drinking water, diseases can spread within communities and result in the death of new born babies, children and adults. As a result of this deprivation, people are so desperate for water, women are forced to travel many miles in the blazing heat, just to retrieve water; something that many of us take advantage of. With the help of Camps International, drinking water tanks can be built within the community, reducing the journey length.

When you place everything into context, you begin to realise how fortunate you really are compared to others, and that having instant access to water, electricity and other utilities is not available to everyone in the world, such as those living in Kenya. This is why I am determined to uncover new experiences, help others and hopefully create a difference in the way that Kenyan's will live in the future.
