Story
We need 185 people who will pledge £20 towards justice for this family!
Jessie and Adama came to the UK to study, after having previously fled the civil war in Sierra Leonne, where Jessie's father was executed by the government.
They studied, worked and paid taxes here for nearly ten years and had three British-born children: Naomi, now 10; Debbie, 3, and Joshua 20 months (who have lived here all their lives).
In 2009, Jessie, having been given official documentation allowing him to enrol to study to become an accountant, was then refused the visa, on the basis that they hadn't authorised payment of a visa application fee for one of their children.
He was thrown off his course (which he still had to pay for) and the Home Office withdrew the couple’s permission to work
.
Jessie took the Home Office to court, whereupon the HO was forced to produce their original application showing that Jessie HAD indeed authorised payment. The High Court ruled in the family's favour. The Home Office was instructed to reconsider their application, and to pay the family's legal costs (which has still not happened).
The family have been back and forwards with their application and appeals, without legal representation as they cannot afford a lawyer. Having lost the right to work they are almost destitute. They survive with minimal support through children's services, and through the support of church friends and food banks.
Due to the situation regarding his father's execution, and the children having spent all their life in Britain, Jesse’s family are fearful of a return to Sierra Leonne.
We need to raise £3,500 to pay for a lawyer to represent them at their appeal. That breaks down to 185 people supporting their cause with just £20.
Please would YOU consider becoming one of our 185 supporters? You would be helping an innocent family whose lives have been on hold for nine years, and put right the unjust way that they have been treated all these years.
Thank you for reading their story.

6 years agoI'd like to thank everyone who supported Jesse and Adama. In the month before their appeal, which took place 2 July, the Law Society took on their case pro bono. Then, one working day before their appeal, the Home Office dropped the case against the family and granted them 2.5 years to remain, with full work rights. They are relieved, but the timeframe means reapplying every 2.5 years at a cost of almost £10,000. The money we raised here will go towards the fee £360 for a Home Office administrative review to appeal the timeframe.
