    Story

Breaking the cycle of mental health - TIME FOR CHANGE

Conquer the suicide rate. Everyone is entitled to live!

My name is Claire Fry. I am a fully trained Criminologist with A Bachelor of Science honours degree. The reason behind the set up of TOMMY’S RAINBOW TRUST is because I lost my dear son Tommy Lee Thwaites on the 16th November 2019, aged 25 years of age. Tommy committed suicide after suffering serious mental health conditions including EUPD, PTSD, severe anxiety, depression and self harming .This all stemmed from a serious homophobic attack by five men on the 13th June 2015 in which he was stabbed twice and had a broken glass smashed in his nose.

Although Tommy was in the system, he was seriously failed by a mental health professional and Social Services. Tommy's death could have been prevented if all the professionals had worked together to give Tommy the support he needed. The mental health professionals and social services should have stepped in and a tragedy could have been prevented. They did not follow the guidelines to enable Tommy to be given the right help that he needed.

TOMMY’S RAINBOW TRUST provides a full service for all ages of people suffering from mental health issues throughout the Kent area including advice for families that struggle to get the right help they require for their loved ones. The individuals that are in a crisis,

The aim is to build a network for all mental health professionals to collaborate and promote suicide awareness, prevent further suicides and self harming.

The Centre will: be on call 24 hours operate home visits make sure all information on clients is regularly updated make sure all notes are syncronised when multiple professionals are involved with a client.

being that we are a advocacy trust; we will have tools to help all professionals to stay on task when dealing with the clients offer clients a safe space when they enter the walk-in Centre A comfort room will be available e.g. a Buddhist room encompassing the sounds of nature from a rainforest and a waterfall to give clients time to have to themselves in a place of safety. An art room – for clients to put their feelings into a drawing/painting Follow up appointments - whether a home visit or coming to the centre.

    Our aspirations:

We are guided by the things that people have told us are important to them. We have found that the following aspirations are reasonable expectations for any of us to have in life, regardless of whether or not we are experiencing mental ill-health.

    They are:

have a sense of meaning and purpose in life

have good personal relationships and social networks have hope and positive self-esteem have independence, choice and control be in touch with one’s local community and to be an active citizen have stability and consistency in life Current Socio/Economic Indicators Mental health is rising. It's getting so much worse. It's TIME FOR A CHANGE.

I understand we are living in a time of rapid change. However, mental health is not going away and much more needs to be done to address it.
