Hello!

My name is Claire Steatham, I am currently studying Adult Nursing at Staffordshire University, and I am in the process of planning my four week elective placement for September 2018. I have chosen to carry out my placement in Zambia, Africa.

With the help of ‘Work the World’, who are a reputable organisation set out to assist in organising work placements abroad for healthcare students, offering food, accommodation, and 24/7 support.

This placement will give me a chance to learn more about severely different healthcare environments and patient conditions compared to here in the UK. I see this as a major opportunity to really progress my development, along with making a difference in a community non like my own.

I hope to raise as much money as possible to be able to provide supplies to ultimately help reduce the spread of infection and disease.

I will be working in a hospital that caters to Adult, Paediatric, Mother and Newborn, Cancer and diseases, and Eye care. This will help me gain experience working with issues like HIV, malnutrition, glaucoma, and cervical cancer (one of the most significant causes of death to women in Zambia)to name a few.
