Story
In 2008 I fell pregnant with my first baby.
At my 20 week scan I found out I was having a boy. I also found out he had a problem with his heart ❤️
On the 10th January 2009 Hugo was born. We expected a baby with a complex but fixable heart condition and when my baby was delivered by emergency caesarean it was obvious he was a very poorly little boy.
For 24 hours Hugo was cared and looked after by SCBU at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. He was then taken to Great Ormond Street Hospital where he spent the next 5 months and had 2 open heart surgeries as well as a prolonged intensive care stay and many procedures, tests and scans. He was finally taken back to Holly Ward at Hinchingbrooke where he spent 2 weeks before we finally bought him home.
In the last 8 years Hugo has spent many days and at times weeks on Holly Ward. He's been in for simple visits and then more complex stays but he always gets treated like a mini celebrity and I don't think there are any staff in and around the ward now who don't know him.
We quite literally couldn't manage without our amazing team and having open access to the ward to arrive at any point when we need to bring a poorly boy to hospital.
So now I'm going to try and give something back.
I've decided that I am going to run a 10k charity race for Holly Ward and SCBU on the 13th May at Hinchingbrooke Park.
Quite Simply I've never run before!
But I'm determined to do this and hope you'll support me in raising money for this wonderful amazing place and in turn help people like us when we need to get Hugo looked after.
Thank you!!!!!

7 years agoI'm doing this all for this baby, a baby born in an emergency theatre, a baby born quiet and startled by the world. A baby born with no voice, no hearing and a very broken heart. A baby rushed to SCBU and attached to tubes, wires and monitors, who was carefully watched, checked and cared for. A baby who changed my life in ways I could never have imagined or expected, but did change it and at times it seems hard, but I believe it's made me a better person. A baby who defies the odds still and continues to do so. My baby, My Hugo.

7 years agoThis is it, I've run my run before Saturday. I am overwhelmed by all of your support and amazing comments. I am beyond thrilled by such a great fundraising amount raised so far and I'm just humbled to be part of such a great cause. My Hugo owes his life to Hinchingbrooke, had the sonographer not noticed his heart and helped get everything ready for his arrival, he was 'fixed' by GOSH but the structure, constant care support that he (and I) get from the team on Holly is continuous. My life with Hugo would not be as easy if they weren't here
