Jack's Journey

Jack is a normal 13 year old hormonal teenage boy, or so you'd think to look at him. When Jack was 4 weeks old he started with chest infections, by the time he was 15 months old he was hospitalised, ventilated and placed on life support.

While he was on life support the hospital detected the adinovirus and things changed forever. Hospitals became our second home, if Jack wasn't ill it was for one test or another. When he was 22 months old he was diagnosed with a rare life limiting lung condition called Obliterative Bronchiolitis (OB). Not much is known about the condition and there is no cure at the moment.

Over the past 5 years Jack's lung function has gone down by 17% and has even gone down 2% in the last 2 weeks. As he is now on only 25% lung function things are getting harder for him to do. Even walking up the stairs at home can make him breathless, he use to love riding his bike, but had to give that up about 3 years ago now as he just couldn't cope.

Jack had a double lung transplant assessment last week and made the very grown up decision to keep hold of his own lungs for as long as he can. Knowing that he will need to use his wheelchair and oxygen more and more, he wants to enjoy time with his family and little brother as much as he can.

Jack would like to go to as many theme parks as he can while he still can. It's not a bucket list as he hates that phrase. He just wants some fun times and memories with his family before his condition completely takes over.

Jack doesn't like the idea of people giving their money so he can go and have some fun, however, we can't fund this on our own. Although on many occasions Jack has been a thorn in my side, he's also been my inspiration in life. I just want to make his dreams happen. Thanks to a great charity he is flying out to Disney Land Florida for a 10 day holiday with other poorly children and I'd love to carry on his theme park journey as we won't be with him on this trip to make the memories with him.
