Story
If you enjoy visiting Cosby Yarn Bomb and support what we do we'd really appreciate a donation .
Every penny you donate will not only help fund the amazing artwork you see on display, it will also help fund everything that goes on behind the scenes to make this event happen, including the valuable community engagement and outreach work we do all year round.
In the 3 years since our first ever Yarn Bomb we have grown from 2 friends with a fun idea into a 'Not For Profit' organisation working full time to reduce feelings of isolation, improve people's wellbeing and bring communities together, through creative art projects.
Cosby's summer Yarn Bomb is our flagship event. It's a free, month-long, outdoor arts event, created by the people for the people. Everyone is invited to contribute, from local residents, businesses, groups & schools with the aim of championing the power of creativity and nurturing togetherness.
Alongside Yarn Bomb we run 2 craft group sessions for over 45 adults every week, where members create items both for themselves & the community. We also design and co-ordinate large community installations, host workshops, stitch-up sessions, and deliver projects, resources and materials to local families, schools and groups.
For this summer's event we've worked with 15 local schools on a project celebrating the strengths and talents of over 500 neuro-diverse children. We've partnered with local secondary schools on environmental projects, created over 50m of sea-fringing with Cosby primary school as well as a year long project with local Armed Forces Personnel.
28th August 2022 will see us furthering the beneficial impact of Yarn Bomb as we host our first Community Togetherness Day on Victory Park in Cosby. Bringing together the community groups of Cosby, alongside local mental health and neurodiversity support services as part of an enjoyable and celebratory day of activities, information, workshops & fun. All with the ultimate aim of reducing feelings of isolation & improving wellbeing.
From October 2022 we will be starting a small craft group specifically to support adults with their mental health and hope to follow that with a group especially for young people.
We do this because we are passionate about the therapeutic benefits of participating in creative activities. We are also passionate about reducing feelings of isolation and nurturing togetherness.
Yarn Bomb belongs to everyone. It is created by the community for the community. We design projects that enable anyone to contribute no matter what age, skill or experience, every contribution is valued & celebrated as an important part of what makes up the 'whole'.....and for us that's where the magic lies.
The coming together is what makes Yarn Bomb so beautifully powerful, what's created is something that's ‘bigger than the sum of its parts’. It's a metaphor for how we see community. We are all different and we all matter, we all have something to offer and when we work together we have the power to make a real difference.
