Story
This year, I’m walking for the Manx MSA Trust, who have been prominent in looking into the cause of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) a life limiting disease. Having completed some initial research to find a blood test to enable an early diagnosis of MSA, the charity is now considering the next step, following the findings. Sadly, Chris Blake passed away in March this year, following a long battle with MSA and this sponsorship request is as much a past legacy as a way to look forward with some optimism. I hope you can help with sponsorship - or give all the walkers a big cheer along the way.

6 years agoWell, mission accomplished. I got round in 22 hours, 37 minutes and 52 seconds. Those 52 seconds matter, especially when you've had blurred vision and stopped for a sleep in Glen Mona... I crossed the line with June Melvin, a 9 times (in a row finisher), while I'm on a mere 7, we both said never, ever, ever, again. But I bet we're both on the 2019 starting line. It was brilliantly organised - thanks to all the marshals, supporters, well wishers and feeders along the way. My crew of Norm and Judy did me proud, as ever - I love you guys.

6 years agoOne day to go and the Sun is out and due to stay out, (but not pavement cracking scorchio) no rain due - that'll do us nicely. Been to the Physio again, sprained ankle is a bit less swollen, definitely getting there, but if only the Walk was next month... See you all on the Prom in the early hours likely over the 20 odd hour bracket. But in 2019 I'll be back with a vengeance.

Courtenay Heading
6 years agoYesterday was the last full training session. Hot from the off, we walked from the NSC to Rushen. Nothing too quick, just wanted to get another 19 miles in the tank. 12 days ago I sprained my ankle, that's not big and it's certainly not clever. Close by Rushen is the sea at Port Erin - makes a lovely foot bath for one pretty swollen ankle... If I can't get over the mat by the front door what chance do I have of getting round a mere 17 Parishes? Fingers crossed for the next 12 days and that 'pain really is just weakness leaving the body'.

Good Luck Courtenay! Typical of you to handicap yourself because you find the event so 'easy'! It's a fantastic effort at the best of times, but all the more so on one good foot.
