    Story

CrestAid Foundation plans to organize a free medical outreach to raise awareness on low hemoglobin count which can lead to 'Anaemia' due to poor nutrition and other underlying causes. With the theme, "#Gooddeeds" the program will be held at different Geo-political zones in Nigeria to raise awareness on the importance of energy security, proper nutrition and general good quality of life.

According to a report by World Health Organization (WHO), the global prevalence of anemia for the general world population is 24.5%. Among these group, 47.4% are in preschool-age children with the highest prevalence in Africa (67.6%) and south-east Asia (65.5%). In general, this deficiency is the most common nutritional problem in the world affection at least 2.5 billion people worldwide. In developing countries, as many as 40% of young children and 50% of pregnant women are deficient. Pregnant and non pregnant women in Africa also has the highest prevalence of 57.1% and 47.5% respectively.

Prolonged and untreated anemia can cause marked irritability, depression, poor mental health ,slowed growth and even death. Iron deficiency has also been linked with cognitive issues and neurological problems including restless legs. Lack of adequate iron in the brain and nerves can impact neurotransmitter signaling, nerves insulation and brain energy metabolism.

In view of the above, we plan to raise the fund to help procure all the required items for the outreach which includes portable haemoglobin testers, BP monitors, rentals etc. Women and children will be considered top priority during the program to raise awareness on their susceptibility to iron deficiency.
