Story
On October 3rd 2019 I will be travelling to Nepal to trek to Everest Base Camp. This will involve 14 days straight of trekking at high altitude, covering 125km (77 miles in old money) in total & climbing up to 5,643m above sea level. This means that I will be trekking for up to 8 hours each day at altitude, and when I reach my maximum altitude there will be less than 50% of the oxygen compared to at sea level, and the average temperature is -20 with a wind chill of -35. Also, I should mention that I will be flying into the most dangerous airport in the world, Lukla, which has a 400mtr runway straight off the side of a mountain, in a tiny 10 seater aeroplane!! (See below)
What will be even more fun is the lack of washing facilities, western toilets, hot showers etc. It's fair to say that I am going to stink by the end of the trek!!
To try to prepare I will spend the majority of my spare time up mountains somewhere. In the last few months, I have climbed Mt. Snowdon, The Old Man Of Coniston, Kinder Scout, Mam Tor, Y Garn, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach, and Moel Famau just to name a few, and there will be even more over the coming months (which I feel may be deserving of a little donation in itself).
I have decided to raise some money for the rugby team that I am the coach of, Crosfields Under 8s. Everybody involved with the club is a volunteer, and the only way these amazing kids are ever able to get new playing kits, training kits, after game wear and training equipment is through sponsors and fundraising such as this. At the minute we are in need of 28 new training kits which will cost £1500 as they have outgrown their current training kits, so that is what I am going to put any donations towards.
They are a fantastic bunch of kids who have all become very good friends, and any money donated would be greatly appreciated. While the trekking and lack of creature comforts will test me in many ways, it'll be a trip of a lifetime and hopefully, something you feel is worthy of a little (or large) charitable donation. At this point, I must stress that ALL of the money donated will be going to the team. The cost of the trek, guides and porters, international flights, internal flights, accommodation, equipment and food etc have all been paid for by myself, over £4000!! (sorry wife x).
Thank you for your time and all donations, page shares etc are greatly appreciated :)
