Story
Message fromEmma one week post op and what a tough week it's been! From a hospital bed hooked up to machines to a hotel bed. I had a brutally honest conversation with the surgeons last Wednesday in which I told that my insides were worse than any of us could ever have imagined - there wasn't a single bit of my bowel that wasn't stuck to my back, my bladder was practically stuck upside down with adhesions and they had no choice but to cut part of my ureter out and put a large stent in between my kidneys and bladder which will need removing in another op before I'm allowed to come home.
The "remnant" which actually looked like an enlarged ovary was buried deep underneath my intestines and was stuck solid to my pelvic wall and had two cysts attached to it that were bleeding.
The surgeons had to spend over five hours just unpicking the adhesions and putting everything back where it should be and I was told that I was actually lucky to be alive as every single one of my organs was starting to shut down - that was hard to hear! I also had my appendix removed so that there was no way it could cause any need for surgery in the future - what none of us were expecting at all was that it was actually already causing big problems and the pathology report that came back yesterday revealed that I actually had a tumour in it! The most pointless organ in your body and I had a flipping tumour in mine! Yet again I was told that I was lucky to be alive (twice in one week - I'm like a cat!) and that when (not if) it had caused my appendix to rupture it would have killed me. That might also explain why I was so sick on the flight over! So, all of these things considered, I won't be flying home next week but I know I'm in the best place and fingers crossed, once the next operation is over and done with that really should be it! These surgeons really are life savers and the kindestablishment most humblest I've met.
Unfortunately more money needs to be raised to cover extra surgery..

7 years agoasking how I was going to pay for my treatment so far .... that's the really scary part! The tests in ER were going to cost $2,100 and for me to stay over night it was going to cost $12,000. After 24 hours there would be another similar bill and those bills would just keep on coming until I was well enough to be discharged. Despite what some people seem to think my parents don't have a bottomless pit of money and every single penny that is being spent over here needs to be raised. I know so many of you have already donated money and I honest

7 years agoshed load of my blood. An hour later my results were back and I was diagnosed with Pyelonephritis which is a severe kidney infection that if left untreated can lead to blood poisoning and even death. Luckily my amazing doctor recognised my symptoms and it's his quick thinking that got me seen so quickly and made a horrible situation a lot better than it could have been. I had IV antibiotics administered straight away and at the same time a lady from the finance office walked into the room with her card machine and computer on a trolley asking
