Story
My daughter Danielle is 25 years old and was born with a condition called Miserable Malalignment in the right leg
After a constant battle with the NHS they had refused Danielle the operation she needs.
14 years have past and the NHS still refused the operation. Danielle took a turn for the worse last August. The pain had got so bad she has been left unable to work. She is now taking morphine on a daily basis and therefore has no quality of life due to the side effects and pain. We took matters into our own hands and paid for investigations using the private system. We eventually got the answers we have been searching for.
Danielle has more than a 35% rotation the wrong way. The consultant put her onto his NHS list as he also works with the NHS along side his private work. We had finally got somewhere and can now see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Danielle is house bound a lot of the time. We have purchased a wheel chair so she is able to get out more. Her quality of life has been difficult for years, not able to drive of pursue a career like normal people due to the amount of time off work, pain and agony she has been in for years.
After 2 months on the waiting list we were told that the surgeon is leaving the NHS and unable to proceed with her operation.
You can imagine how Danielle felt after a life long battle with the NHS system, finding a surgeon, then having the chance of a normal life taken away from her.
The NHS offered us a different surgeon but he has never conducted an operation of this complexity before. Danielle needs 2 maybe 3 corrective procedures, each taking 8 months to heal. The complications are endless and risks are high, but we have to take the risk as Danielle has no quality of life at present.
I guess the question is, what would you do?
We now have to pay for the surgery privately, each costing around £10,000 each. We are still trying to find an NHS surgeon but they have all decided to go private!

8 years agoDanielle has had her first operation and recovering at home. The recovery time is around 8 months with endless physio and hydrotherapy. We are hoping that the bone will knit together ok as the bone above the knee had to be completely cut in half, rotated back to its normal position then pinned together with rather long screws and plates. She has to wear a leg brace to hold her leg in place with no weight bearing on her leg for 5 months. Therefore Danielle uses crutches and a wheelchair to get around.

8 years agoThank you to everyone that has donated so far so, your help is greatly appreciated. We still have a long way to go. We have so far raised £160.00 and need to try and reach a target of £6000 by 27th September to put down a 50% deposit for Danielle's operation. This is a huge target in such little time, everyone's help is really appreciated. Thank you Terrie
