Story
Mirik, Darjeeling are the places we would visit almost every summer when we were kids. Known for its beauty, friendly people, charming weather, home of the famed Darjeeling tea - my list can go on.
The people of the Hills are a part of West Bengal despite being different in appearance, language, culture, tradition, cuisine etc from the rest of the state.
Though the struggle and history of the Gorkhaland movement is decades old, the agitation this time continues for over a month. Rightly said and felt, it is a sincere need and demand for our Homeland, our identity and progress.
But among all this, as it inevitably happens, it is always the common man who bears the brunt of all the political rigmarole.
My cousins have been sharing news of the total indefinite strike, army being deployed, firing going on, people not having access to food and basic necessities, schools closed, business losses, daily labourers suffering.
This fundraising page has been created for the affected people, especially in the remote areas, who now have no way to earn money or even have a decent meal a day.
We have heard news that the Bengal Government is adamant to quell down any sort of demand for a separate state of Gokhaland and the Central Government is being a silent spectator while the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) pledges that they will not give up this time on the local people's aspirations.
With all this plainly laid out, nobody knows how long it will take for this burning issue to come to a halt - so please do donate so that food, water and the basic necessities reach the people in the affected towns, villages and other far flung remote areas.
As I have previously said, donating here does not mean that you are supporting the Gorkhaland movement - it is for a humanitarian cause where we are helping the affected common people who need our help and support the most.
Thank you for stopping by and for donating!
