Story
The "Dastarkhan" Project at PIMS (Government Hospital) in Pakistan
About PIMS
Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) is one of the biggest government hospital in the country, located in the capital city of Islamabad.The average number of patients step into the hospital is around 7000 – 9000 on a daily basis. Most of the patients come with their families from far-flung remote areas, where they are unable to afford expensive private medical treatment.
Challenges:
Families of the patients end up spending days up to weeks to take care of their patients, usually under open sky. Distressed, tired and financially-stretched, they strive to save every penny for better treatment and medication of their patients while spending the bare minimum on themselves.
About “Dastarkhan” Project:
After recognising the plight of the people at government hospitals, we thought of providing free meals to these well-deserved and needy brothers and sisters. Allhamdullilah, we have been able to set up our first food camp at PIMS hospital. The response has been overwhelming, as we are currently catering for 125-150 people on a daily basis. The food runs out in a matter of 10 – 15 minutes max, leaving lots of deserving people waiting in queues. We realised we need more sponsors, especially for our Ramadan food programme.
Plan for Ramadan:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever gives iftaar to a fasting person will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest.” - Tirmidhi
Provide Sehr or Iftar in the blessed month of Ramadan on a very nominal rates as below, since there is no better time to feed the needy and poor families.
* Cost of Sehr for 100 people per day – £38
* Cost of Sehr for 100 people per month - £1140
* Cost of Iftar+Meal for 125-150 people per day - £65
* Cost of Iftar + Meal per month for 125-150 people - £1950 (Our target is to provide it for 300 people at least insha'Allah)
* Sadqa/ Zakat are applicable.
Jazak'Allah for your donation!!
