Story
St Matthews Church, Netley Marsh, near Southampton, has been providing religious, spiritual and community support in Totton and surrounding areas since it was built in 1855. Its congregation, affiliated scout and guide troops and local businesses have supported and raised funds for many local causes through carnivals, fetes and fayres. It has also provided a beautiful venue for many weddings and baptisms.
Unfortunately time has taken its toll on the church building and we are in urgent need for funds to renovate our church.
The main floor was collapsing and after 5 years we have managed to raise funds to renovate this, all from our own efforts and various kind donations. Work was started in October 2023 but unfortunately during construction the chancel and nave floor are now collapsing and work has been halted to deal with this problem. Our funds were only enough for the main floor and so we need help to raise money for this extra work.
We do not get any financial grants from the Church of England or the Diocese.
Our vicar, the Right Reverend John Reeve, has run over 10 marathons to raise money and we are continually looking at ways to raise more. While the church is closed we are having our services in the church hall but are desperate to return to the church for the tranquility and religious support it offers.
We would be so grateful to receive any help you can give.
