Story
On the 3rd November, I will be joining a large number of my colleagues to undertake a walk along a 7.5 mile section of Hadrian’s Wall, starting in ‘Once Brewed’ in Northumberland (approximately 35 miles from Newcastle).
The distance and terrain will be sure to present a challenge for myself and the wider team. We're walking to raise money for the Newcastle Building Society Community Fund.
The Community Fund makes grants available to charities and groups local to our branches. Our aim is to give grants which can make a real difference to the areas in which we're based.
The Fund is primarily funded by a community-linked savings account - the Newcastle Community Saver. The more our customers save into the account, the greater the Society's contribution is.
We also raise funds through the inspirational efforts of our people. Colleagues this year have raised over £5000 towards the fund.
When it comes to distributing the grants, our customers nominate where the funding should go. So if they know of a project in and around our branch network that might benefit from financial assistance, they can apply on their behalf.
