Icebreakers 2017 Good Causes

Every year the Icebreakers Committee decide on the local good causes they are going to raise money for.

Since 1981 the group have raised money for a number of good causes; in 2013 we raised money for the ATC Squadran and The Allstars Football Team and in 2011 we chose The Pilgrims Hospice raising more than £3000 for such a worthy cause.

This years good Causes we are raising money for are the fundraising appeal in aid of Ellice Barr who needs to raise money for vital surgery to reduce her spasticity, ACE (Alternative Christmas Experience) who provide a traditional Christmas meal and entertainment for those on their own at Christmas in Deal and Walmer Deal Hospital which is there for Deal and Walmer residents. We will also be holding a Icebreakers Trust Fund to be donated to good causes throughout 2018.

We are also planning to help other good causes throughout the year and the Deal Food Bank with toiletries and we ask that you "bring a tin" of in date food or toiletries, so don't come to the dip empty handed and let us try and make someone's Christmas and New Year.

Ellice Barr is 5 and from Deal, Kent,she was born seven weeks early weighing 3lb 9oz. She spent a little time in N.I.C.U before coming home. When Ellice was 22 months she was not meeting her movement markers. Ellice was diagnosed with Diplegic Cerebral Palsy.

Diplegic CP causes the messages from the brain, through the spinal cord, to the muscles to be abnormal. This causes spasticity. Ellice is unable to walk without assistance. She currently uses a walking frame or wheelchair, when tired.

SDR is surgery which can help Ellice by reducing the spasticity, improve walking patterns, range of motion and mobility, whilst making it easier to perform self-care i.e. getting dressed.

She is a very happy and independent little girl who puts a smile on anyone's face when they meet her. By helping Ellice to her target of £65,000, you will help her to "have legs like her friends"
