In February of 2017, I spent some time volunteering at a school in Merida, on the Island of Ometepe, Nicaragua. This is the only school for miles around. The children travel from very far to get to this school. I was very impressed by how tidy and well turned out they were, and how well mannered. However, I was saddened by the lack of basic things we take for granted in schools here in the UK. They do not have dictionaries, encyclopedias, a computer, proper and sufficient desks, pencils, pens, paper, erasers, glue, tape, lined notebooks, markers, scissors, calculators and some of you might think, very importantly, a football to play during break times.

I am raising money to buy these supplies and send it to the school in Merida. I care about this, because I believe passionately that it is the right of every child to have a proper education. A proper education is not just for those who can afford.
A better educated world makes for a safer and peaceful world for us all!
