Story
Ashford Borough Council has launched its very own Voluntary Emergency Response Appeal (VERA) to help communities across the borough greatly affected by the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.
Ashford is a borough that prides itself on caring for its community, and this appeal will support those who need it most during this unprecedented and continually challenging time.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we have seen so many within the community come together to help care for and protect our most vulnerable residents. The compassion and selflessness shown by so many to those that need it most has been overwhelming.
This fund aims to support local people even further during this time of crisis. Perhaps you want to volunteer at the moment but are unable to leave the house due to self-isolation? Maybe you’ve received a food parcel and want to give a little back? You may have even experienced the effects of COVID-19 first-hand and want to help others through a similar situation?
Money raised will help to:
- Keep supplies coming in to the Ashford Response Depot, from which we are busy distributing free food parcels to the most vulnerable residents in the borough, as identified by the NHS. A standard box going out is worth around £15 and contains a selection of ambient foods as well as fresh fruit, chilled products and household essentials as required.
- Give extra financial support to voluntary community groups, who are working hard to protect and care for those who need it most at the moment.
Every penny raised will be spent locally, on the residents of our borough, to help them through this critical time.
Giving whatever you can will make a big difference.

4 years agoTHANK YOU to everyone who has supported our VERA campaign - thanks to you we pleased to announce that three key organisations across the borough will receive funding - Ashford Vineyard Foodbank, Bright City Church Foodbank and Repton People’s Pantry. The funding will support Ashford Vineyard in their move from a foodbank to a ‘social supermarket’ referral system. Bright City will continue doing the good work they have been doing for years, while Repton People’s Pantry will extend their community led food bank.
