Story
A 20-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after plunging from the roof of a town centre multi-storey car park.
Trainee accountant Kavan Maddocks, who lives with his mother Janthea on Chester Road, has not regained consciousness since the incident on Sunday afternoon.
He suffered multiple broken bones and swelling of the brain after falling from the Grosvenor centre car park on Churchill Way.
His dad Frank Maddocks said the day before the incident Kavan, a huge Macclesfield Town fan, had been watching his beloved Silkmen play Forest Green Rovers.
He later went to a friend’s house to watch an Ultimate Fighting bout.
Frank, who lives in Leeds, said: “I just can’t come to terms with it. It was a massive shock. Kavan is the life and soul of the party and has never seemed down before.
“We are by his bedside all the time and just hope he knows we’re there. We hope his friends and family in Macclesfield really get behind him and send him all their love and hope. We’d like people to visit him in hospital so he knows how much people care.
“The biggest problem is the damage to his brain. We don’t know if he will ever recover. We just hope he pulls through.”
Kavan was taken by air ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Emergency crews were called to the car park at around 2.15pm on Sunday, November 13.
Police, the ambulance service and the air ambulance assembled at the front of King’s School.
The road was shut off while emergency crews dealt with the incident.
James Jennings, 21, saw the aftermath as he made his way to his job at Dominos Pizza on Churchill Way.
He said: “It was pretty scary. They had blocked off all the roads with crime scene tape and there were lots of police cars and an ambulance. I had no idea what had happened. It was very confusing. When you see that sort of response from the emergency services you know it is serious.”
