Story
Erlenbek Dotcom is a cute tricolour puppy who has thrived since being born, and is a beautiful, playful boy who will grow into a gorgeous and loving beagle - if he survives.
We recently discovered he has a heart murmur, officially known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus, confirmed by the vet who explained that a valve in the heart didn't close properly at birth, and left untreated will mean he will likely die of heart disease before his first birthday.
The treatment is relatively routine and very likely to fix the problem forever, but it is expensive. In puppies his size it would likely require open-chest surgery on his heart to seal the valve and allow him to live an ordinary life. Another treatment involves inserting a special device into his heart using keyhole surgery. In both cases, the diagnosis and treatment is likely to cost around £3000.
Because it's a congenital defect, it isn't covered by any insurance policy. So please help us raise money to help save this little pup's life. Please help however you can - any donation would be greatly appreciated.

8 years agoLuckily treatment is available, which consists of surgery on the heart directly. Unfortunately the surgery isn't offered by the referral specialist we'd gone to, so we've not made any progress in resolving the problem, only identifying it. We don't know yet how much treatment for Pulmonic Stenosis will cost, but it will definitely be more than what we originally imagined. So… Thank you so much for the kind generosity. Your donations have helped tremendously, and even though it's just the start of our journey, it's a significant one.

8 years agoToday Dotcom went to have a heart scan. We thought this was just a formality in confirming the suspected diagnosis of PDA, a fault with a valve that sits just outside of the heart. The plan was he'd have the scan and then go into surgery straightaway to fix it. Unfortunately things never seem to be as straightforward as expected. It turns out the problem is not with this valve after all, but rather is a blockage within the heart itself. The proper name for this is Pulmonic Stenosis. The vet was very good at explaining it.

8 years agoWe're so grateful for all the support everyone has given. Thank you! We just wanted to let you know that Dotcom is okay, although he gets a bit tired quicker than his little sister and sleeps more. We've had a few promising conversations with specialist cardiologists today about treatment. Apparently beagles do not commonly get PDA, so the first step is to arrange an echocardiogram to properly confirm the problem with his little heart. Costs for this vary but it's around £300-£600 so we'll shortly be making arrangements to have this done.
