Story
Hey all,
So, I'm going to kick this whole thing off with telling you guys what Given To Live are and what they do. Simply put, Given To Live are a non profit organisation that take disadvantaged, excluded or just people going through a real rough patch, to see their favourite artist live in concert. Each of these gigs cost roughly a £1000 because it's not just the ticket these guys take care of! It's everything. Merchandise, hotel, food, travel, everything! An awesome touch is GTL give that fan a one of a kind poster that they can take home with them
The idea of GTL is such a simple one. So, simple that it completely, blew my mind one Friday night, out with my girlfriend down King Street in Bristol when one of their fundraisers came up to us. Since then, I've been thinking about what I could do to help them. The only thing I could think of is that I'm a fairly keen runner. I've done a few running events but, nothing to the extent of what I'm going to be doing for GTL.
One night I was out on a fairly long and tedious run. To kill some time I was trying come up with a decent GTL fundraising idea. I eventually come up with the idea of doing the BathHalf dressed as the favourite rock star of the person who made the highest donation. I genuinely thought this was an awesome idea, until I told my girlfriend - turned out she had a much better one - She came up with the idea of doing it dressed as Slipknots front man Corey Taylor. The idea was perfect, not just for me but also for GTL; I've been a lifelong fan of Slipknot so, to me it's the coolest idea ever. I also saw that Corey had met a few fans (see below) through GTL so it was the perfect fit!
After a meeting with the GTL founder I decided to make this even harder for myself (as if it wasn't hard enough) Bring in the Manchester marathon (26.2 miles). Taking place 3 weeks after the BathHalf (13.2 miles) it just feels natural to do it.
To say this whole thing is going to be tough is an understatement. I’m going to be doing both events dressed in Corey's Iowa get up (my favourite slipknot album) bit of a downside for me there though, is Corey himself has even described that mask as one of the hardest to wear. (Check out the bottom pic)
So, to put it bluntly. I'm either going to complete both challenges and everything is going to be amazing. Or I'm going to get rushed away by an ambulance at mile 22 in Manchester and become one of the greatest internet memes/Corey Taylor disses of all time.. Donate and find out :-D
Thanks for checking out the page 🤘🏻

5 years agoMy nose is in all sorts of pain but I managed to pull it off. 26 miles in 05:02 dressed as Corey Taylor. I’m really psyched with the time I finished it in because at times I didn’t know of I’d be able to wear the mask the whole way. Thanks loads to all the donations so far. It’s hugely appreciated. There’s still time to donate and we’re so close to the target. 🤘🏻

5 years agoLongest mask run yet. My heart rate was all over the place which is crazy considering my pace. Considering I’ve got a half marathon and full marathon to do in the mask and a suit. This challenge is going to be a blast 🤷♂️ Thanks for all the donations so far. You guys are awesome 🤘🏻
