In March, Dunaskin Doon Band were delighted to finish second in the 1st Section of the Scottish Championships. This means the band travel to Cheltenham in September to represent Ayrshire and Scotland in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. It also sees the band promoted to the top tier of UK banding from Jan 2019.

The coach journey to Cheltenham will cost in the region of £1750 and we would love your help to get us there. The band are carrying out fundraisers to help with accommodation costs and to pay for specialist tutors to work with the band on the set test piece.

The band formed in 1869 and will celebrate their 150th anniversary next year. In 2012, the band hit a rough patch with player numbers declining. The determination of a few stalwarts kept the band alive, and a 'relaunch' in 2013 saw the band move premises to a more accessible location in order to attract more players. A steady run of success has followed since with the band rising steadily through the ranks from 3rd Section to Championship Section in just 5 years. The jump to Championship level is huge, and the band are under no illusions that this will mean a lot of hard work and determination, something the Dunaskin team have in abundance.
