Story
Help us make the Dursley Fireworks a FREE event
Girlguiding Dursley District has been running the Dursley Fireworks for three years and intends to return on 2 November 2019. It's a popular event supported by approximately 2000 paying visitors.
Feedback from the community via social media channels is that they would like to make this a free event to allow everyone from the community access to the event. Sadly some stand out on the side of the road potentially causing a risk to themselves and the local traffic. However, fireworks don't come cheap and we've been running it as a charity fundraiser, raising over £20,000 for charity in the last three years. So here is our proposal to the people of Cam & Dursley.
Crowdfunding
The fireworks alone cost £5000. There are additional costs for the likes of portaloos (also requested by the public), equipment, etc. We have £1448 from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme but only if we do not charge an entry fee. Therefore we need the people of the community and those further afield who would like to join us for the event to make a donation. For some it might be a few quid, for others you may be able to invest in the community to a higher level. The beauty of this is that you can make a donation anonymously at a level you can afford.
But here is where things get tricky!
If we raise £5,000 through this fundraising request by the end of September then entry to the Dursley Fireworks will be free.
If we only raise a proportion of this amount then we will still need to charge an entry fee. Therefore we will need to return the money secured from Tesco and we will reduce the entry fee based on the amount of money raised here.
Should we go above our target then the additional funds will be put to one side to kickstart our campaign for funding next year.
If the event is cancelled because of adverse weather on the day, any funds raised this year will be automatically put forward to next year's event instead.
The challenge
So, people of Cam & Dursley, it's over to you. You asked for a free fireworks event for everyone so this is your chance. Please give what you can.
