Hello, I am going to Greece to volunteer in a refugee camp for a month. I will be volunteering in a school that is currently being set up teaching a vast range of things, from English and maths to art and sports. Many or the children in the camp have never attended school and have only known a world of war and destruction. The effect of this on such a young soul is unimaginable and they deserve an education to equip them with the skills, confidence and knowledge to have the best possible start in life, to grow into the best versions of themselves and even help their parents along with future generations to deal with the fallout of what is currently taking place. I am able to pay all of my own travel and living expenses. However, the organisation that I am going with have requested I raise £200 before I arrive. This will go towards my accommodation costs as well as general maintenance in the camp, materials and the overall cost of running the school that is being set up there. This is also a way of engaging more people with the issue, reminding them that this is an ongoing difficulty and showing that so much more could be done to help. I personally am in the very lucky position whereby I have a family and a job along with (almost - one more year) a university degree. I have the time and the money to travel to Greece and give my time and love and energy to those who really need it. I understand this is not the reality for everyone, so if you are reading this I ask that you consider what you personally have that could better the life of another.
