    Story

PLEASE HELP RAISE £2000 FOR PEOPLE IN CAMBODIA SO THAT THEY CAN BUY A NEW WATER WELL.

    MY STORY

With all my children now grown up, last year I fulfilled a lifetime ambition to go travelling across South East Asia.

Keen to embrace the experience to the maximum, I wanted to fully Immerce myself in the different cultures by taking up various volunteering roles along the way.

It was during one of these roles, volunterring at an orphanage in Cambodia that I came across some people that would change my life.

One day whilst on a trip with some of the other workers from the orphange to donate some food I came across a small rural village over 2 hours away and I couldn't believe my eyes.

These villagers had absolutely no sanitation whatsoever and no running water. Due to the extreme poverty that they were living with on a daily basis and no prospect of any work, the men of the village had to emigrate to Thailand to try and earn some money to feed their families. This left a small number of women to run the village looking after all of the children, Due to the fact there was no running water or sanitation I was told (even though the year was only a quarter of the way through) no fewer than 23 children had died in that village alone. 23!!!!!

When you think of the things we complain about and the things we take for granted in our every day lives, it pails in significance when you compare it to how those who are unlucky enough to have been born into a 3rd world country live.

With that being said WE can help to make a difference with a contribution no matter how big or how small. I am going back over to Cambodia in Febraury 2018 and I am trying to raise £2000 which will purchase a fresh water tank for the villagers whilst I am there.

This small gesture can help save the lives of 100's of children every year, so please , please, please help and give whatever you can.

    Thankyou all in advance xxx

    Cambodia

Cambodia is one of the least urbanised countries in Southeast Asia with over 70% of people living in rural areas, many in extreme poverty. Cambodia has the lowest sanitation coverage and the second lowest water supply coverage in the region. As a result, almost 300 children die each year from diarrhoeal diseases.

Cambodia has had a tumultuous recent past. As a result of the devastation wrought by the Khmer Rouge regime, an entire generation of professionals was lost, creating major shortages of skilled engineers, technicians and health professionals. The first generation of post-conflict graduates is now emerging and there is an excellent opportunity to support these young people to build skills and drive their country's development.

Addressing this crisis is essential to Cambodia escaping its reliance on outside aid and to developing economically. Without access to safe water and toilets close to home, Cambodian children can not grow up to be healthy and smart and maximise the new opportunities from increasing economic integration in the region.

Photos of all the kids smiling in their new Liverpool (and to a slightly lesser extent the Barca kits) made me smile.
