Story
Solai Dam Tragedy- How Can You Help?
Last week, a dam collapsed in Nakuru county, killing a reported 45 people and leaving hundreds homeless. Many of those affected were workers for the company who built and used the dam and are worried that other dams in the area may burst. The disaster has left behind a damaged community who have lost friends, family and homes. The red cross have commented that the death toll may still rise.
I work at a school in Nakuru and the the Solai area is within the same county. I will be visiting at the weekend to take warm clothes, blankets, food and other necessities.
Many friends from the UK have read about this tragedy in the news and have sent messages wondering how to help. If that's you, then send your money through 'Just Giving'. The money you donate will be spent on necessities for the people affected. https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/business/article/2001280319/bleak-times-for-traders-in-wake-of-night-disaster

6 years agoDear all, Yesterday we took our first donations. I will update my Facebook with a more detailed account. I wrote earlier that we would give all future donations to the Red Cross Kenya, but have since found a way to spend the money that is more in line with the spirit in which people have donated to this page. The displaced people have temporarily been staying at Solai Boys' School and have to move out soon. I am now working in liaison with others working on the ground in the area who have plans to help build an IDP camp with clean water.
