Story
Maisey Fishwick/Gallagher was just four months old when diagnosed with a brain tumour. Doctors said there was nothing they could do for her. Her family had Maisey admitted to Derian Childrens House Hospice so she could see out her life as painlessly as possible.
After three days in Derian House, child cancer specialist Eddy Estlin was visiting Maisey with a view to increasing her pain medication, during this visit Maisey gave a reaction that she hadn‘t in hospital and the doctor arranged for her to go back to Pendlebury Childrens Hospital as she was showing signs of fighting.
Back at the Hospital and Maisey continued to fight. Neurosurgeons and oncologists decided on a plan. Due to the size of the brain tumour her brain had been pushed to one side. Doctors agreed to try and operate and remove as much of this tumour as they could. She had a fifty fifty chance of surviving this operation.
On Friday 5th April 2008 she went through an eleven hour operation whilst her mum and family waited for news from theatre, regular updates came and she was doing well. She came through the operation and her amazing surgeon managed to remove ninety five percent of the tumour. The other five percent was on her brain stem.
What followed next was even harder on her eighteen months of intensive chemotherapy. She managed fifteen months of chemotherapy and then treatment had to be stopped due to her health, luckily the tumour was gone.
Maisey has been left with various disabilities because of the tumour, she is unable to walk, talk and she is tube fed. She also has a severe sight impairment and she attends numerous appointments at Manchester to deal with ongoing problems and yearly MRI scans of her brain. Due to a right sided weakness she also has scoliosis of the spine and problems with her right hand, foot, hips and knees.
After all that Maisey has been through and continues to go through in her life she is always smiling and loves music. Now that she is going to be thirteen this year and will never be able to live independently we want convert the garage into a sensory/living room as her needs grow and she gets older.
Her dad will be completing a skydive this summer in support of raising funds. Any money raised will be used for the conversion/extension for the sensory room and the equipment for it which will benefit Maisey greatly.
If we are lucky enough to reach our target we would also like ti make a donation to Derian House Childrens Hospice.
Thank you
Emma & family
