Chester was born in November 2015 the happiest day of our lives. Although he brought so much joy and happiness we just knew that something wasn't right. After months of trying to tell people our worries we finally had a breakthrough after being in and out of hospital with various infections. One of these occasions glangwili hosptial found Chester had a hole in his heart, we were given medication to help with the fluid build up in his lungs and waited on another scan as it was too hard to get a clear view of all areas of his heart. When Chester was just five months old we got admitted to hospital again following nose bleeds and generally being lethargic, here he had his second echo where we were given the most heartbreaking news of our lives. Chester had a life threatening coarctation of his aorta and it was severe enough to not be allowed back out of the hospital until he had major heart surgery to save his life. This coarctation is a condition where your major heart artery is narrowing where eventually it will shut off the supply of blood to the rest of the Body. Everything started to make sense, his constant catching of infections, him not being able to gain weight but instead losing it, his cold hands and feet and his rapid breathing. After almost 3 weeks in 3 different hospitals we found out Chester has multiple cardiac issues and he was being treated for various things including his extremely high blood pressure he was finally getting his life saving operation. Bristols children's hospital saved our little boys life. A truely heartbreaking time of our lives for us and our families. We can't thank them enough. Chester will need lifelong treatment for his conditions. If we can give back a small amount to Bristol for what they have given back to us it would mean a lot. The cost of running the intensive care unit and the cardiac ward is phenomenal They need all the help they can to ensure they always have the equiptment and staff to keep saving babies lives. ❤️
