    Story

ShivaNova/Equator Festival is a creative arts company in South-East England that brings together world class culturally diverse artists and their culture and heritage from African , Asian, central European and middle-Eastern communities to perform in their events and festivals, and lead educational practical performance-based and heritage workshops and residencies with young people and communities.

Our World in a Garden events have featured a diversity of world music artists including U'Zambezi, Latin Fiesta, Tsungai Tsikirai, Maiuko, and Latin Matices entertained us with their rhythmic Venezuelan/Colombian Latin mix. Also Tatcho Drom with their enticing gypsy and Eastern European melodies, Maidstone jazz outfit Javajam and their mix of popular jazz tunes and blues, Kora sensation Sura Susso, Romany Diamonds with their Balkan Roma melodies, and virtuoso classical guitarist Craig Ogden.

We also had a multicultural Halloween event in Ashford from 2.30-5.30 at Repton Community Centre with Nepalese, Syrian and African world music and dance, with food and arts and crafts.

All donations go towards performers' fees.

Artistic programming and project management for Equator is led by ShivaNova’s Artistic Director and composer Priti Paintal, and the Education and Outreach Manager, and Marketing Manager, working closely with our schools, community and local venue partners.

ShivaNova brings global music, dance and traditional craft styles to communities who have never experienced them before and engages local schools and community groups

to leave a legacy of positive culturally diverse role models sharing their expertise inspired by their diverse cultural heritage and backgrounds. Help us to continue this important work to help sustain our vision of learning through other cultures through the arts.

Many many thanks for all of you for your donations and support. For many musicians it was their first concert this year and certainly for all of them it was their first since lockdown!
