    Story

Hi, my name is Eve Lewer, a 14 year-old student attending Farringdon Community Academy situated in Sunderland. I recently have been accepted to go to The Gambia in West Africa in the late months of 2018, to help rebuild schools and support the community there. Earlier this year I was interviewed to go on this life changing trip to The Gambia and secured a place!

Project Gambia is ran by The Youth Box Project (a registered charity) since 2011. During this time over 200 young people in six different groups have ventured out into The Gambia and have all made a significant difference to the Gunjur community. They strive to make life better for the children, young people and adults who are living there.
Gambia is the seventeenth most poorest country in the world and the smallest in Africa. Life in The Gambia can be hard and a simple doctors visit could cost up to the equivalent of a whole days work. Due to this medical supplies are taken to The Gambia to help improve the health and welfare of the community.

During my visit to The Gambia, there are many volunteering tasks I will do such as:
    - Organising games and sport activities within Schools.
    - Organising community fun days + creating events for the local orphans.
    - Delivering emergency first aid workshops in schools and community groups and equipping the local health post.
    - Redecorating and refurbishing classrooms and playgrounds.
    - Refurbishing the school building.
    - Helping the local women to clear land and plant crops at the community garden.

This trip to The Gambia will be a brilliant life changing opportunity for myself and my peers experiencing this with me. However, in order for this to happen I have to raise £1420, which pays for my accommodation, travel fees and supplies like paint and plaster to repaint classrooms which will be extremely beneficial to the less fortunate people living there.

Any and all donations are widely appreciated. Thank you.
