PIPS Suicide Prevention Programmes CIC was established in 2009 as a not for profit social enterprise that develops and delivers training that improves emotional health and safety. Their training programmes range from an introduction to mental health for pupils entering post primary education to suicide prevention training for teachers and police officers.

They have trained thousands of people across the province in suicide prevention skills including students at University of Ulster and Queens; teachers in Belfast, Derry, Dungannon, Armagh, Bangor, Castlewellan and Downpatrick.

They also train pupils in schools how to develop emotional resilience as a defence against depression – and also train teachers how to deliver our programmes. PIPS Suicide Prevention Programmes CIC do not receive any government funding for their work and never charge participants on training programmes.

In 2016, 297 people here in Northern Ireland took their own lives, according to a report by the Office for National Statistics. The 5,965 suicides registered in 2016 in the UK comprised 4,508 men and 1,457 women. In Northern Ireland a total of 221 men and 76 women committed suicide in 2016. Proportionately, the Northern Ireland total was the highest in the UK.
