My name is Faye Douglas. I was chosen last year to join the Karen Hill tribes Trust - a charity dedicated to working with the Karen People of Mae Hong Son, Thailand's poorest province. Mae Hong Son is situated in the mountainous north-west of Thailand, near Myanmar.

The Karen are made up of 400, 000 people settled in remote mountainous regions. 64% live below the extreme poverty line. Isolated Karen villages do not have clean water for drinking and hygiene or waste disposal systems, which forces them to rely on contaminated river water. This leaves them vulnerable to Typhoid, E Coli, stomach ulcers, urinary problems and many other serious diseases. Most families survive as subsistence farmers, and only 1 in 4 Karen children go to school.

In July 2018 I will be living with a Karen family in Mae Hong Son for a month and participating in the construction of a gravity fed clean water system. I have pledged to raise £800 that will go directly to Karen Hilltribes Trust (Registered Charity Number: 1093548) to be spent supporting the Karen people with clean water projects etc. Any additional money that I manage to raise will help my own expenses including flights, vaccinations, visa etc.

I began jogging at the end of January and will continue until I have covered 100km (62miles). I am keeping a photo record of my mileage progress which I will show at the end. So far I have done some Lucky Square games and a great bake sale which have been really successful, and I am planning a car boot sale in early May.
