Story
Music in care homes is a necessity, and so with the money I can raise, I aim to buy at least 5 sets of percussion instruments (tambourines, castanets, maracas etc.), and also a small collection of sing-a-long jazz and swing CDs that a care home community can all enjoy together. I am going to run the Broad Town 5 mile run in June to show my support towards dementia charities and I hope you will show your support by helping me fundraise over the next 6 months!
Music has the power to create any emotion and can bring happiness on a universal scale. I want to show that musical activity creates a happy and exciting environment for those living in a care home, and in particular, dementia sufferers. Having had family members and close family friends fall victims of dementia, I have realised how heartwarming it is to see sufferers smiling, laughing and doing something that really lifts their mood. The musical memory is the most powerful and strongest memory that is retained by the human brain, and musical activity is one of the only activities that engages both sides of the brain at the same time.
