Story
In August 2017, before I fell ill, my son and I climbed the Eldfell vulcano on the Heimaey island, Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland. After an ongoing motivational training, climbing 10 Tors on Dartmoor, I will attempt to climb this volcano again the last week of July 2018 in Iceland to raise funds for the neurological
team at Torbay Hospital.
In 2016, I became very ill with an autoimmune condition and by September 2017, I fell ill with suspected bilateral sciatica, the following months saw my health deteriorating. I suffered 25 falls, many fractures, an open wound on my head, but more importantly 5 vertebrae fractures and I lost my hair. The medication that was used to deal with all these events brought on a Cushings' syndrome that left me with an adrenal insufficiency . Finally on March 5th 2018, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Throughout these months, I lost my muscles, my ability to walk and look after myself. Life became a very dark place. From the beginning of April, I started walking again with sticks and became able to train with the neuro physio team at Torbay Hospital. On May 22nd, I was back at work as a teacher, using sticks.
