Story
The Friends of the Caird Hall Organ work in collaboration with Dundee City Council and ‘Leisure and Culture, Dundee’, helping them look after the hall's fabulous Harrison and Harrison organ. This includes not just general maintenance, but being able to donate funds to cover the costs any major repairs or upgrading work, such as recently when money was donated to replace the humidifiers inside the organ chamber.
The charity also put on various events in order that the organ may be heard more – as well as concerts, these include reviving the old tradition of ‘black and white’ movies being shown in the Caird Hall with organ accompaniment.
A most exciting area of development has been the educational work FOCHO has pioneered… thus far, well over 2000 schoolchildren have had the chance to hear the organ (many for the first time!), and some to have a shot of it, through various workshops put on by the charity… hopefully igniting some sparks of interest in future generations for this wonderful instrument – one of the city’s finest ‘jewels’ … and hailed as the ‘finest concert organ in Scotland!'
