    Story

Music is a key focus for us at Foxhill. All of our children (from Nursery to Year 6) access daily musicianship through the concept of Kodaly and are encouraged to learn to play a musical instrument. We now run two strong choirs and a full Brass Band! Consequently, Foxhill children develop both a love of music and the potential to become accomplished musicians of the future. Our music curriculum impacts strongly on our children’s enjoyment of school, their behaviour, confidence, achievements and their mental health and well-being.

This year school has no funding at all that can be used to support Music within the curriculum and in particular the continuation of our ‘Brass Band’. We are struggling to afford to buy the instruments we need, to pay our brilliant conductor/brass teacher and transport the children to perform. We rely totally on the goodwill of our Parents – which is massive and voluntary donations, which are very limited.

Over the last ten years many of our children have joined and passed through the Foxhill Brass Band and had the opportunity to perform and compete at a wide range of venues. We have developed a good relationship with Black Dyke Brass Band and even played alongside them at Black Dyke Mills and Huddersfield Town Hall. We also work closely and perform with Queensbury’s successful marching band ‘Revolution’. Our Band plays at local events, and for the past two years we have taken part successfully in the ‘Harrogate Competitive Festival’, even winning the shield for best band in the entertainment section! We also take our music out into the local community, to a number of Care Homes, Hospices and Churches.

Staff and Parents give up their free time on a regular basis to perform with the children and help with organisation of these external events.

Our Foxhill Community is quite rightly very proud of its Brass Band and its positive impact on our children’s success and well-being.

If any local businesses would be interested in supporting us financially, that would be fantastic as we are very close at the moment to not being able to maintain or continue with this vitally important opportunity for children. We are a primary school in Queensbury, West Yorkshire, the home of the famous Black Dyke Band.

    Thank you for reading.
