    Story

UR Potential are fundraising for a young man called Freddie, Freddie suffered a stroke at age 5 back in 2010 as a result of Chicken Pox’s. He was left with left side paralysis and has taught himself to walk, talk and keep up with some of his peers at the mainstream school. The original physiotherapist assigned the family by the NHS moved into private practice after two years with them and advised them on a whole range of treatments available privately. Along with many other revolutionary treatments the family have used for Freddie a company called DMO Orthotics have been supplying him with a special glove or gauntlet as they call it. These gauntlets have been a huge benefit and currently not available to Freddie on the NHS and the family have to pay privately for these. They are over £200 each and Freddie goes through 2 or 3 a year.https://www.dmorthotics.com/medical/products/dmo-gauntlet
They have recently introduced a new leg support product to help with “Drop Foot” which Freddie also suffers with. The current NHS supplied brace for this is a big clunky device that runs from his toes to his heel and up his leg. While it does give him support its makes wearing shoes, hiding it with 2 socks etc, a challenge. The link to the new device is here: https://www.dmorthotics.com/medical/products/e-step
This slim sock with an electrical pulse is similar to wearing a sports sock but gives greater movement than the brace and makes walking 50% easier.
The family have been to the NHS and Freddie has tried one on and his walking was fantastic. They family have recently recieved some funding from NHS midlands to fund the first sock however future socks and gloves will needed to funded by the family. They are currently around £2000 for the sock and custom fitting.

Freddie started High School in September and getting round a big school quickly is more of a challenge than being in a small primary school.
