Story
The EFSTH is the main referral and receiving hospital for trauma patients in The Gambia and thus serves a population of about 1.7 million people. At present resources are severely limited and the Orthopaedic surgeons there rely on a single drill to perform surgeries (pictured on Right above). This limits not only the number of surgeries they can perform but also the safety of the surgeries due to issues with sterilising the drill. Infection control is therefore a problem and it puts patients at a disadvantage.
Arbutus Medical have devised a solution for low-income countries such as The Gambia, where sterilisable covers and chucks are used to enable multiple uses of the drill in a day and also make all surgeries sterile (Left hand picture).

I would like to purchase one of these drills along with 3 covers (as a start), to take to my counterparts in The Gambia to greatly improve the delivery of care to their patients. The cost of this is $1820 after a discount kindly offered by Arbutus Medical.
I will be travelling to The Gambia myself at the end of February 2017 to deliver some other orthopaedic equipment for fracture fixation that I have managed to source, and would love to be able to include the drill with this donation.
Any donations however small will be put to good use and will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Kebba
