Weʼve raised £1,263 to help with building projects at our churches in Waldron - we have a new church hall to build for our school and a loo for our parish church!

Funded on Thursday, 27th December 2018

    Story

Rural churches, like ours at Waldron and Cross In hand in East Sussex, CAN prosper. But they have to meet their people where they are today, mobile communities at the start of a new millennium, with demands 24/7 on their time, their energies and their resources.

We're called to serve everyone. So we're building a new kind of church hall, a contemporary and flexible space, for our children at our Church of England Primary School, and new facilities for our beautiful medieval parish church (including a loo!), so that we can properly serve our 21st-century community with all kinds of activities and events, secular and faithful.

As the vicar around here, I'm doing my bit with a sponsored pilgrimage - I'll make my communion at our cathedral church in Chichester on Sunday Sept 30th, then walk to Waldron for (I hope!) our parish communion the next Sunday 7th October. It's almost exactly 60 miles - a mixture of the Old Way (thankyou British Pilgrimage Trust ), the South Downs Way and My Way (thankyou Frank Sinatra) - and I'll be sleeping in parish churches along the way. "The Rev'd" Dylan (pictured with me in his dog collar) will be coming along too.

Why a pilgrimage and not just a sponsored walk?

Because a pilgrimage isn't just about the journey and the destination - important as those are - but also about our intention, what we want to do, where we want to be and who we travel the way with. I'll be joined on some of my way by friends, fellow pilgrims and congregants, to learn a bit more about ourselves and what we're doing on all our journeys.

So if you're able and willing to make a contribution to our cause, we'd be most grateful, thankyou. It'll be lovely if you can join us on The Way!
