    Story

I have known Elisante from the beginning of my adventure in 2013. In all that time I have seen him study diligently, fight for education, be let down by the systems and oftentimes, the people around him. Most recently in April of this year, he lost his home and belongings to a flood. He has never given up and consistently endeavours to move himself and his family forward. He has never asked me for anything.

Elisante and My Story 2013 to Now

Now Elisante has a plan and I believe it to be a good one. and he would like to ask for your support. In his own words, unedited:

I came from a family of Three children( me & my two little sisters) As a older in my family I have all the responsibilities to make sure by any means my family is surviving. I have to feed for my family and paying bills.

Due to recent Pandemic, many families have been challenged to the limit and most of Us cannot maintain the daily basis Meal. To help my family with My little know-how, I have decided to grow potatoes that will partly provide for my family and perhaps try to help those I can depending on how successful this project will be. My idea is to grow potatoes that will generate Us incomes that will be sufficient to push my family forward and withstand the effect of the Pandemic.

For this I am humbly asking for your help and support, anything that you will help and support will be highly appreciated.

    IRISH POTATO PRODUCTION

He has joined a cooperative which will guarantee to purchase his crops of Irish potatoes at a fair price. He has access to suitable land, he has the determination and willingness to work that land and with the backing capital, he would be able to relocate with his mother and two sisters and between them farm the land commercially with the potatoes and privately for sustenance.

He has prepared a thorough budget which he and I have discussed and enhanced until I am satisfied it is workable and that with hard work should see the family safe, self-sufficient and with the possibility of business growth from reinvestment of profits.

RELOCATION COSTS: 100,000 TZS £ 35.00 FUNDS RAISED

LIVING COSTS UNTIL PROFITS 50,000 TZS £ 17.50 FUNDS RAISED

    LAND PREPARATION/CLEARING 300,000 TZS £105.00 FUNDS RAISED

SEEDS FOR ONE ACRE STARTUP 1,200,000 TZS £420.00 MORE NEEDED

    FERTILIZERS 200,000 TZS £70.00

    HARVESTING 200,000 TZS £70.00 OCTOBER

    FUNDRAISINGCOSTS £36.00

£800 would see his plan become a reality and allow him to farm one acre of the land he has access to and set him on the road to a viable future. I would like to see his project grow and for him to farm more than one acre of the land but for now, getting him self sufficient and with some income is the priority.

The family need to relocate in July when their current rental agreement ends.

In these difficult times across the world when local charities and essential services such as the NHS are garnering our support and kindness, it is hard for me to ask you to think about one young man in East Africa.

But the fact remains that if I don't, nobody will, there is no social services and local community support is meagre. Elisante deserves better and will make something for himself and his family if we help him now.

I can only, once again, appeal to your kindness and pray for your support.

Humbly and with love and thanks,

    Gill xxx

In 2013 I journeyed to Tanzania to volunteer with kids forced from their homes and living on the streets. I stayed for three and a half years returning home with much-changed principles and life values. Now, I work in the care industry as a reflection of those changes.
