Story
Mark McCloskey, husband of my best friend Lesley, was only 35 when SUDEP took his life in August 2016, leaving his whole family and all of his friends in complete shock.
SUDEP is when a person with epilepsy dies during or following a seizure for no obvious reason. It affects around 500 people in Britain every year. The reasons for SUDEP are not clearly understood and I want to help Mark's family and friends raise money for the charity being set up in his name (Mark McCloskey Foundation), in order to fund research into what causes it and how that knowledge can be used to help prevent other premature deaths in the future.
Over 3 days between 1st-4th September a friend & I will be backpacking 44 miles across one of the most remote areas of wilderness in Scotland: the Affric Kintail Way. Not content with simply completing the walk, I am challenging myself to carrying a tent, sleeping bag etc and camping for 3 nights. Being more accustomed to luxury hotels than tents, this is definitely pushing my comfort zone to the max!
Please dig deep to keep me going! And pray for dry weather that weekend!

7 years ago** The Affric Kintail Way - Day 3** Today was by far the best day! Deep among the Kintail mountains on narrow uneven footpaths winding their way through the pass and into Gleann Lichfield. We 'only' had 11 miles to hike today. Lots to look at: impressive waterfalls, Camban Bothy which we had a peek inside of, Glenlicht House (owned by Edinburgh University Mountaineering Club), the cutest startled sheep I have ever seen, and a heilan' coo which from a distance looked like a tent, such was the size of it's rear end! AKW, we did it! 😀

7 years ago**Affric Kintail Way - Day 2** Cannich to Alltbeithe (yes we are crazy!) What a mammoth walk! Most people do this over two days, we crammed it into one. 22 MILES, 11.5 HRS HIKING 😲 My hip bones were really badly swollen by the end thanks to my heavy rucksack and we were both shattered. To our disappointment the first half of the day was again along forestry tracks. Things changed dramatically for the better on leaving the River Affric parking area and we finally felt able to enjoy the mountain scenery opening up before us. NOT BEFORE TIME!

7 years ago**Day 1** 13.5 miles walked over 5.5hrs. Drumnadrochit to Cannich. Today was TOUGH! Yes in the physical sense as our bodies were adapting to carrying our heavy packs, but more so in a psychological sense because the trail itself just wasn't what we had expected or hoped for. In a nutshell we were bored! 4 hours of forestry roads with little to no views followed by 1.5hrs along a roadside verge. Arriving at the campsite my hips were bruised from the weight of the rucksack and disappointed, we hoped that tomorrow would be better. TBC...
