    Story

In support of Jacob I will be running an Ultra marathon. 62 miles along the canal. On the 6th of August starting in Birmingham at around 1am I'll start my journey along the canal footpaths, finishing at the British Legion in Market Drayton.

Jacobs family have been friends of ours for many years. Sean, Jacobs dad is always there for other people. Now I would like to do what I can to be there for him, his wife Nikki and their little boy Jacob who is currently undergoing treatment.

Read more about Jacobs story below as told by his mum Nikki:

Jacob has been struggling with his eyesight and his temper from the age of 2, as time goes on his eyesight gets worse and so does his behaviour. I'd approached school at the beginning of March this year as I thought he may have ADHD so we were filling out forms for a CAMHS referral. Also in March Jacob went to the hospital for his routine eye appointment, again his eyesight had worsened and when they looked at the back of the eyes they noticed his optic nerves looked thin. An emergency MRI scan was arranged the following week, the doctor asked to see us as soon as the results were in and told us that Jacob has an "Optic Nerve Glioma" which is a benign brain tumour. Due to the location of the tumour he needs chemotherapy for 18 months, this won't shrink the tumour but it will hopefully stop it from growing, because if it grows then he will completely lose his eyesight. We have been seen at Alder Hey for numerous tests, they have fitted Jacob with a portacath and he has started his chemo journey, they are incredible and we can't thank them enough. We have been advised that Jacob will at some point will probably need a blood transfusion and a platelet transfusion due to the pressure the chemo will put on his body. It will be a long road but he is a warrior and is being so brave. Due to Jacob struggling with medication he may need to have an NG feeding tube fitted within the next couple of weeks, and we are expecting Jacob to start losing his hair imminently.

Any donations will go towards helping Jacobs family with the ongoing costs that come with Jacobs treatment. Including travel costs to Alder Hey Childrens Hospital in Liverpool where Jacob will be receiving treatment for at least the next 18 months.

All donations are greatly appreciated. Let the training begin!

    Thank you, Gino.
