Story
About Ted
from his family
Ted arrived to us in a poor state, he had issues with walking and poor skin condition. Our initial visit to the vets diagnosed his skin condition, an ear infection, fungal infection of his feet and more importantly his mobility issues are caused by dislocated knees that have never been dealt with, this has affected his hips and in addition he has a torn ACL in his left leg which is what brings about his lameness. After x-rays and a review by a special orthopedic veterinary consultant we are advised that Ted needs an operation on his left leg which they call a TPLO; this is major surgery for Ted and his rehabilitation will be long and arduous but it provides Ted with at least one good rear leg. If Ted were not to have the surgery it is unlikely that we could keep Ted Pain free for the length of his anticipated life span (at least another 5-6 years) notwithstanding this should Ted's right ACL tear which is very possible given his arthritic state then he would not be able to walk, surgery wouldn't be an option at this point and we would have to make the very sad decision to end Teds life which would be wholly wrong for such a young and loving dog .
Ted having the surgery would provide one good rear leg and would mean that he has a better quality of life, we can manage pain relief much better and if the right ACL tears or there is any further degeneration in the right knee/hip we would be in a position to either say leave it and manage pain as he would essentially have one good back leg or operate further if that was appropriate and safe either option gives Ted a chance at normality and a decent quality of life. Can you help us to help his new family to get the surgery? of course we as a rescue are already committed but can you join us some small way to give Ted a happy life Please join us in our quest if you can . 8 years agoAnother update for you today, Tuesday, 4 days after his operations, Ted is due back at at Julia M Boness today for his check up, Julia will access if he can have is cast off this evening, from our perspective, Ted recovery seem to be going well, he has been restricted to just a small corner of our lounge and his progression has been remarkable to see, from not wanting to walk around to every 2nd word from us to to try to keep Ted laying down. He seem to want to do everything his self now and we a battling with keeping him in one place. He st
