Here at the Rescue Centre we aren't only home to Horses and Ponies we also have other fury and feathered friends including donkeys, cattle and chickens to name a few. Most recently we have taken in a herd of goats which were destined for the meat market. With many of the females in kid they were still on the way to slaughter some with only a couple of weeks left of pregnancy, these poor girls would have lost their lives with unborn babies still inside them. On arrival at the centre, there were babies not paired to mothers, a couple had foot injuries one of which was not recent, worm burdened and lice infested as well as being malnourished. It has taken many weeks of getting good feed in to them, worming, lice treating, vet visits for injuries including a vaccination programme for each. In addition to all of this, we have started to make large outdoor accommodation with new tensile fencing and shelters. Our work is not over and we are currently raising funds to finish the project as well as being able to provide activity/play centres for each field (goats love these). Male kids are neutered and we offer a home for life policy at the centre. With some care and attention the goats that arrived nervous of human contact now enjoy feeding from the hand and a scratch on the back!
