Globe RC are taking part in Race the Thames 2021

Over the course of a week six "crews" of Globe Rowers and Coaches are taking part in London Youth Rowing's (LYR) race the Thames 2021 challenge.

Needless to say because of the pandemic this is a virtual event, our athletes will be taking part in the event by running, cycling, rowing (indoors) individually but combining all of their mileage with a goal of as a crew of no more than 8 covering a total distance of 346km, the length of the Thames.

We are raising funds to cover the fees of entry which go to LYR, a fantastic charity which enables young people between the ages of 11 and 18 to have the opportunity to access the water and try the sport we love and practice. In particular they aim to provide opportunities to row to those who elsewise would not and are also doing a great job of furthering diversity and inclusion within rowing. Furthermore they are also a close partner of Globe Rowing Club, complementing our coaching staff, enabling access to more equipment for our extremely successful junior squad.

The entry fees equating to £25/head or in total £1,125 will go to LYR and everything beyond this will go to our club's boat fund. Although not a charity Globe RC is a public rowing club offering recreational and competitive rowing to a wide range of age groups from juniors to masters, we have been operating in East London since the 1920s and are currently undergoing rapid growth. We hope that post pandemic we will be able to take on more rowers, both beginners and experienced individuals.

To do this we welcome your generosity to enable us to purchase more equipment, with a goal in the short term future of, in particular, growing the fleet allocated to our junior squad and replacing the most out of date senior equipment.
